Salinas Financial Sustainability Plan Framework – City Staff Proposal to Eliminate the Structural Deficit and Balance the Budget

Below is a link to the new City of Salinas Financial Sustainability Plan Framework. This is the proposal for how the City of Salinas can eliminate a significant structural budget deficit and balance its budget. The Salinas Taxpayers Association obtained it through a Public Records Act request.

City of Salinas Financial Sustainability Plan Framework as of May 8, 2017

There are 25 “revenue generating ideas” that would total an estimated $1,535,300 to $6,296,000 over the next five years between FY 2017-18 and FY 21-22.

There are 85 “expenditure reduction or savings ideas” that would total an estimated $2,767,850 and $4,632,850 over the next five years between FY 2017-18 and FY 21-22.

This framework will be brought before the Salinas City Council for a study session on May 30, 2017. The plan will be updated with tables showing the exact projected revenue increases and cost savings.

Those who object to elements of the plan need to proactively propose specific and measurable alternatives for eliminating the structural deficit. NOW is the time to suggest other ways to balance the city’s budget.
